Most websites rely on a few browser settings to work properly: JavaScript runs their interface, cookies keep you signed in and local storage remembers your preferences. These checks show whether each one is switched on in your browser right now. Every test runs in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.
The checks
- JavaScript: whether scripts run, which almost every modern site needs.
- Cookies: whether sites can keep you signed in.
- Local storage: whether sites can remember your settings and drafts.
Why a setting might be off
- it was switched off in your browser, by you or by your organization’s IT policy
- a privacy, script-blocking or ad-blocking extension blocks it
- your browser’s strict privacy protection blocks storage for some sites
The JavaScript and cookie checks also explain how to switch them back on in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.
When these checks are useful
- finding out why a site won’t load, won’t keep you signed in or forgets your choices
- confirming a setting works after you changed it
- telling a support team which features your browser allows
