Why your exact OS version is hidden
Your exact operating system version is shown in the result, such as Windows 11 or macOS 15.2. Unlike the operating system tool, which reads the frozen user agent string, this tool asks your browser directly through User-Agent Client Hints. It works in Chrome, Edge, Opera and other Chromium-based browsers.
Why the user agent doesn’t show your real version
To reduce tracking, browsers have frozen the operating system details in the user agent:
- Windows 10 and Windows 11 both report
Windows NT 10.0 - every recent macOS version reports
Mac OS X 10_15_7 - Chrome on Android reports a generic
Android 10; Kinstead of the real version and model
The details still exist. Websites just have to ask for them explicitly.
How User-Agent Client Hints work
Client Hints split browser information into two levels:
- Low-entropy hints: the browser brand, major version, platform name and whether the device is mobile. They are sent with every request.
- High-entropy hints: the exact platform version, full browser version, device model and CPU architecture. A site must request them, and the browser can decide what to share.
This page requests the platform version in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers.
How Windows 11 is detected
Windows reports a platform version through Client Hints. Versions 13 and above mean Windows 11, versions 1 to 10 mean Windows 10, and 0 means an older Windows release. This is the method Microsoft recommends for telling Windows 10 and 11 apart on the web.
